What My Grandmother Taught Me About Sacred Beauty

May 19, 20263 min read

Sometimes our deepest life work begins long before we consciously recognize it. Looking back, I can now see how the seeds of my path were planted through my grandmother’s reverence for beauty, indigenous wisdom, and the sacredness expressed through human form.

I've been reflecting lately on the unlikely seeds that grow into our life's purpose.

SSEEING BEYOND THE SURFACE

My grandmother was a painter with a profound appreciation for indigenous cultures. Though she never spoke of ceremonial sexuality—that came much later in my journey—she did teach me something essential: to see the sacred in human form.

I remember watching her paint, how reverently she would capture the dignity and spiritual essence of indigenous subjects. "Look beyond the surface," she'd tell me, her brush moving with practiced grace. "There's a story in their eyes, in how they hold themselves—a connection to something ancient and powerful."

She never knew her artistic reverence would eventually lead me to the Quodoushka teachings, but looking back, I see how she planted the first seed of recognition that the human body could be a canvas for spiritual expression.

THE WISDOM IN THE LAND

Last month, I returned to a special place in Santa Fe—one of the few remaining locations where authentic Kiva ceremonies are still practiced. Standing in that ancient circular chamber, I felt a connection to the artistic traditions my grandmother so revered.

As I write in my book "The Sexual Practices of Quodoushka":

"The Kiva is not merely a building—it's a ceremonial technology. The circular form, the sacred directions, the connection to earth and sky—all create a container where transformation happens with remarkable ease. When sexual teachings are shared in this space, they land in a completely different way."

This visit reminded me why traditional Quodoushka was always taught in ceremonial settings—because the container itself is an essential part of the transmission.

WHAT MODERN RELATIONSHIPS ARE MISSING

Have you noticed how many relationships today seem to be missing something? Even couples who love each other deeply often report a sense that something is incomplete.

In my decades of working with couples, I've come to recognize that this "missing piece" is often the spiritual dimension of their connection—particularly in their intimate life.

THE SACRED DIMENSION OF INTIMACY

"When sexuality is approached as merely physical or recreational, we access only a fraction of its potential. But when we bring ceremonial awareness to our intimate moments, something profound awakens—a recognition of the divine in ourselves and our partners that transforms every aspect of the relationship."

I see this transformation regularly. Couples who arrive feeling disconnected leave with a sacred bond that radiates into every aspect of their lives together. Singles who felt incomplete discover a wholeness within themselves they never knew existed.

WHY IMMERSION CHANGES US

One of the most powerful aspects of immersive transformational work is the gift of presence. How rarely in modern life do we fully step away from distraction and allow ourselves to deeply listen—to our bodies, our relationships, and our inner knowing.

Traditional teachings understood that real transformation requires more than information. It requires spaciousness, embodiment, reflection, and connection.

THE GIFT OF FULL PRESENCE

One of the most beautiful aspects of a residential immersion is the gift of presence. How rarely in our busy lives do we get to step completely away from daily demands and focus entirely on our spiritual and sexual awakening?

A PERSONAL INVITATION

This September, I’ll be guiding a small ceremonial Quodoushka immersion in Santa Fe together with my colleague Åsa Kullberg. In an intimate setting, we’ll explore emotional intimacy, conscious relationship, embodiment, and sacred connection through experiential practices and shared inquiry.

September 23–27, 2026
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Limited to 24 participants

If you feel drawn to this work, I invite you to listen to that inner knowing.
